Volume VIII, Issue  VI

 November and December 2011

Commander & Auxiliaries  Message:

Comrades, Auxiliaries and friends,

To all my friends and comrades at VFW Post 1859,  I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your help and cooperation this year. As most of you know I will be leaving soon to winter in Florida so this will be my last notice to you. As you know, Otto Richter, Sr. Vice Commander for the Post will be taking over in my absence. I hope that you will continue to help him and work with him as you have done for me when I called on you this year. I know that he as a past commander, can and will continue to work to serve you and all of those in our Post and in our surrounding Community. So please when you see him ask him how you may be able to help him and our post by volunteering. Remember this Post is your organization so as a member you should all be willing to help serve because you can’t always expect the same people to continue year after year working to keep it going. It takes a team of everyone to do that job so please help where you can.

Well that is enough on that issue now down to business. I would like to remind everyone that we will be having a deep fried turkey dinner on November 5, from 2:00 PM until gone, all at a cost of $8.00. Remember that it is by supporting functions like this that we are able to continue with the programs we participate in and also all the programs we support in the community.  I would also like to remind you about supporting our Taco nights on the 1st and 3rd, Wednesdays of the month. I would like to thank Bob and Jan Garstecki, and their crew for the fine job they are doing with the Taco Nights. Keep up the good work. Also remember to come down on Veterans Day and participate in our program here at the Post. We will be serving chili and soup after the ceremony. Just another reminder that on November 24, Thanksgiving Day the club will not be open until 5:00 pm. In December we will be having Steak Sandwiches for $6.00 this will be on December 3, starting at 2:00 PM. Also on December 11, we will be having our 6 month planning meeting in the club room starting at 2:00 PM. Please come and bring your ideas we are always looking for new things to do and try and get more people involved in our Post and its activities.  On December 10th we will be watching the Army vs. Navy game and we will have food of some type provided by the members of the Men’s Auxiliary, so please come

Ladies,

The holidays are approaching quickly. Lets’ not forget those less fortunate. Remember our Veterans and what they stand for—freedom, peace, and the safety in knowing our country is free from harm. God Bless our Vets.

Remember our night out is Nov. 12. We welcome any ideas to help support our post and its functions.

Also I would like to say so long to our snowbirds, be safe, healthy and enjoy your winter.

  See you in the spring.

down and enjoy the fun and support their efforts to help make our organization a success. The Post will also be hosting an Adult New Years Eve party again this year in the Club. The event will start at 8:00 PM and it will be a pot luck dinner. Just remember also that the Club will close on Christmas Eve. At 9:00 PM and will not open until Monday, December 26, at 3:00 PM..

So in closing I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the members of our Post who have volunteered so much this year and thank them for the help and dedication. It has been an honor to have been able to work with you all and I am looking forward to working with you again when I return.

Until then I would like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving, and a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. May 2012 bring your even more joy and happiness than the past years.

William E. Theaker

Commander

Newsletter Update:

Attention all members of VFW Post 1859. I am sorry to inform you that due to the increased cost of copying and mailing this will be the last newsletter that will be mailed to our members. We will however continue to do a newsletter and have copies of it for our members only at the Post Club Room. We will begin this new procedure beginning in January of 2012. Also I should inform you that we have decided to only print 100 copies of the newsletter so if you would like one please stop by early and get yours. We are sorry for the inconvenience but we must cut our costs. We also ask our members to only take one copy for themselves and not to take several copies for their friends. You may also go to our website at www.vfw1859.com and click on the newsletter section to also see a copy of the newsletter. If you have any questions about this policy please contact one of the Post Officers and they will answer any of your questions.

Yours in Comradeship,

Wayne W. Miller, Quartermaster
