As an Honor Guard member you are part of a great group of men. Not only are you a member of one of the greatest organizations a veteran could belong to but you have also volunteered to be a part of the final team to honor a veteran when his last battle is over. We as Honor Guard members of VFW Post 1859 provide the well deserved last military service a veteran could want. We have been doing an average of 8 to 10 funeral services per month for any veteran. We honor all veterans who’s family may request a military funeral service. We don’t care if they are a member of our Post or any other Post or Veteran’s organization. We at VFW Post 1859 feel that it is their right and if we are able, we will see to it that they are honored as they deserve.We currently have about fifteen (15) member but we can always use more. It takes at least 7 members for the firing squad, 1 to call commands and play the bugle, 3 to hold the flags, and 2 members to be in charge of folding the memorial flag. So as you can see it takes several member to provide this service for our departed comrades and it takes a lot of commitment to be able to attend all of these services. Plus we also participate in our Saginaw Memorial Day Parade, the Veterans Day Service at our Veteran’s Memorial Plaza, we also conduct both Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day services at our Post and we are also involved in many other activities each year.And since we have recently chartered a Men’s Auxiliary Unit here we also accept them as Honor Guard members.
